Post About Courier engine
Dear all,

I have Courier MKⅡ(1959) , and it's engine has alleady changed to MGA 1622cc type.
But this summer, engine has blowed !
So, I'm planing to exchange the engine to
MGB 5bearing type.
Have anybody try this modify ?
My Courier's transmission is for MGA 1500cc type (10 splines).
When I change the engine to MGB 1800cc 5 bearing type, is there any special modify or just change some parts for each ? ( ex. Back plate...)
Please advice me!!

The change should be pretty simple, you will need to use your existing backplate as the starter mounting position changed and the flywheel must be from a 5 bearing engine but for the 3 Synchro gearbox as the later 4 synchro type flywheel is larger diameter and won't fit.
I'm pretty sure your existing clutch will fit this flywheel directly.

Yoshinori,

About everything you would want to know about engine conversions for the MGA/MGB can be found at: mgaguru.com. This is an extensive site relating to everything MGA. There are detailed sections relating to changing from a 3 main to a 5 main engine, and modifications required depending on the transmission of choice. It will take a while to go through everything, but there is a treasure trove of information available.

Hi Yoshinori,

thanks for your PM, I couldn't reply as apparently I don't have the right priviledges !!??
One thing I forgot to mention was that you will also need the engine front plate from your exisitng motor or a chrome bumper MGB engine as the front plate on the later rubber bumper cars is different and won't fit so, to summarise if you want to fit an MGB 5 bearing engine you will need to:

Use the starter and backplate from your exisiting engine.
Use a 3 synchro type flywheel from a 5 bearing engine.
Use the front plate from you current engine or any chrome bumper MGB.

I don't know where you are based geographicaly but the parts are readily available locally to us, so if you need any help in sourcing then please let me know
