Post The ELVA 60th Birthday .. Part 2
It is always dangerous to list names because of the certainty of missing people out, but let's be clear that it was great to see ALL of you who made it to the 60th Birthday celebration in NJ.
The racing was keen without too many dramas on or off the track .. certainly there was plenty of track time available when compared to many historic/vintage meetings, with a wide variety of vehicles at the circuit including karts and motorcycles with and without sidecars!
There was an excellent mix of cars bearing the ELVA badge and here is a list of the ELVA race car entries, with race numbers and the drivers ...

COURIER (74) BOB LEMBCKE
COURIER (60) DREW CULLEN
COURIER (181) TUCKER MADAWICK
COURIER (22) KEVIN MICHAEL
COURIER (43) HANK GIFFIN
Mk.II (210) FRED BURKE
Mk.II (8) PAUL ADAMS
Mk.II (36) PAUL WILSON
Mk.II (6) BOB ENGBERG
Mk.IV (82) MICHAEL ORITT
Mk.VI (70) JOE BOJALAD
Mk.VIIS (27) CHUCK PITT
MK.VIIS (256) ROGER CASSIN

I am not sure that I met all the street car Courier owners but good to see the Mk.III currently being restored by Andy Rich and the pretty Hastings built Courier now with Alfa twin-cam power which was featured on the Forum when offered for sale. Current owner??
Bob Prescott had towed his Courier Mk.III from the New York area to take part and there were several other cars scattered around the paddock area. Identities please.
There was quite a scrum for the superb t-shirts, thanks again to Frank Mons, and most of the key-fobs and decals were circulated; reinforced by the wonderful weather there were certainly plenty of smiles throughout the weekend.
We did not have the special FGN/VRG flat caps in time for the group photo, but Chris Silvestri had done a perfect job in producing them, with all but two in small sizes sold. The group photo resulted in some excellent images thanks to Bill Stoler after some early confusion of who, where and when it was to happen! Some pics follow but contact Bill for your special copy.

The feature race for ELVA entries was the Group 5 Mark Donohue Cup for ELVAS being 14 laps with ten cars entered, with three casualties during qualifying, Hank Giffin (Courier) with broken half-shaft; Michael Oritt (Mk.IV s/r) with suspension failure, and Bob Engberg (Mk.II s/r) with broken camshaft. The result was perhaps predictable with a win by the very quick Mk.VIIS (BMW) of Roger Cassin, closely chased by the pretty Ford Twin-cam VIIS of Chuck Pitt, but also a spectacular podium finish by Paul Adams in the Climax powered Mk.II .. KDY 68 .. SHE GOES!
Following were Drew Cullen (Courier), Fred Burke (Mk.II), Tucker Madawick (Courier), Kevin Michael (Courier), Paul Wilson (Mk.II), Bob Lembcke (Courier) and Joe Bojalad (Mk.VI). Normally Joe would have been close to the top of the chart but the Mk.VI was not in a happy mood and was later retired from following races. In the Gp3: Race 1 Historic <2.5L ELVA dominated with Roger Cassin on the top step, Joe Bojalad with a happy Mk.VI very close behind and Bob Lembcke on the third step of the podium. Great result. Nice to see Drew Cullen in fourth position. This time it was Chuck Pitt who had car problems and Hank Giffin too as his Courier was indecently quick in qualifying ending up on pole!! In race Gp3: Race 3 Historic <2.5L Roger Cassin again stole the show well ahead of the 23B, but it was Hank in a very impressive third place, and the next ELVA being Paul Adams in 6th position. All these races were long, 12-14 laps, so tiring for both drivers and cars ... but lots of happy competitors and good to see cars back in action after paddock repairs whenever feasible. That's motor racing!
More soon ... Plus pics.

Ditto to all Rog has said. A superb event. Now, perhaps and maybe the 65th Reunion should be a bit more centrally USA located and earlier in the race year with a better chance of great weather and more running Elvas. California is not central but we have some great race courses here and some organizations that would welcome an Elva Reunion. CSRG, General Racing and HMSA come to mind. I guess we have a few years to think on it. Meanwhile we can enjoy some good memories of the 60th.

File comment: Paul Adams and daughter enjoyed the Reunion Party and Paul's "Podium Finish" in the final days race.
