Post subject:  ELVA Mk.VII #70/008 .. a very special sports racer

Way back in 1989/90, the team at ELVA Racing found a very tired Mk.VII with chassis number 70/008 which was the hugely successful car originally owned by ELVA 'works' driver Tony Lanfranchi .
Anyone who hasn't read Tony's book "Down the Hatch" should find a copy as plenty of ELVA content and a great story of how motorsport really was in the 1950/60's and subsequent years.
Tony was a superb driver and without doubt a very well known character.
Those with long memories will know that ELVA Racing shipped two rather special cars to the 1990 ELVA gathering at Road Atlanta, a BMW powered Mk.VIIS to be driven by Allan Miles and Lotus-Ford twin-cam engined 70/008 for Mark Leonard of Grand Prix Classics.
Arguably the best of the Stateside gatherings, the two cars performed exceptionally well and trophies were won!
The Lotus-Ford engined car stayed in the US but in more recent times had been converted to BMW power, travelled back to the UK via Europe to then became the property of Mike Peters who has just had the car beautifully rebuilt by Simon Hadfield. Simon and his team have plenty of race winning expertise and the car has just achieved a very dominant class win in the HSCC Guards Silverstone meeting finishing 6th place overall.
An ELVA with a huge and important history file that still very much proves that "She Goes!"
