ELVA COURIER 1960 – 100/5/R

This very early car, was built at Bexhill-on-Sea in 1958. It was the Factory Mk1 road test car, but after damage was re-bodied at the factory as a Mk2 in 1960 and carried registration NPM 620, as it has done throughout its life. This was then the road test car again and was tested by John Bolster of Autosport fame. The car was raced extensively in the period and has lots of history including letters from previous owners. It went to the Trace brothers in the mid 60’s and was raced by them for many years, then bought by the current owner in 1983, who imported it to Australia. First step was a bare chassis restoration including a new fibreglass body.

Since then it has had a continual successful racing history in Australia winning close to 100 events outright. Currently running in pre 1960 sports/racing but also qualifies for Historic Production Sports (pre 60). In the current driver's hands since 2013 it has competed in 8 meetings for 28 races with 11 wins, 12 seconds and 5 3rds (and no DNF’s). The car is completely sorted and is easy to drive on the limit. As a lap time comparison with known UK cars, its’ Phillip Island time of 1.55 is just 2.5 seconds off Rod Jolley’s Lister Monoposto time. Condition is excellent throughout with the MGA 1600 engine (3 main bearing) 140 bhp, having completed only two meetings since complete engine rebuild. The car was also completely rewired 12 months ago. Historic specs in Australia are quite tight, so the car is also correct for the period. Internals include a steel crank and new forged alloy pistons. Modified 1¾ inch SU carburettors. Transmission is via a close-ratio MGA gearbox, AP clutch and LSD Morris diff with twin wheel bearings each side. “Uncrackable” 14” steel wheels, front discs and sway bar.

To be sold with complete set of body moulds, complete big-valve spare head, spare gearbox, 4 diff ratios and assorted spares.
