Post VICTORY LANE MAGAZINE (SEPTEMBER '16)
My latest copy of VICTORY LANE magazine received (September '16) has some ELVA text and images including the yellow Courier Mk.IV E1163 advertised by Fantasy Junction, the car having been bought from Wayne Basso at a very 'reasonable' price. No doubt 'Fantasy' will have given the car a thorough 'once over' since.
The Pittsburgh Vintage GP feature includes an image of the Courier of Kevin Michael and a nice mention for Alan Patterson who has raced at every one of the PVGP events, numbering 34, and who attending with his ELVA Mk.1 sports racer. Alan has owned an ELVA front-engined F/J since it was new plus several other early ELVA sports racers. The Group 4 race was won by Norman Berke in a Courier, and the same race winning result was awarded to Joey Bojalad in his fast Mk.VI for Group 7. Peter Patterson also joined the top step of the podium for Group 2 thanks to a quick run in his Mk.III.
The VRG/VSCCA Vintage Motorsport Festival held at the Thompson Speedway, CT, saw a very creditable second spot for the Courier of Dew Cullen in the VRG Group 1 race.
Another quick Courier was entered into the SOVREN Pacific Northwest Historics meeting, driven by Gary Silcox in Group 1, with a win by the Mk.VII of Chuck Lyford in Group 2. Other entrants included Thor Thorson in his Mk.VI and G. Hill in a Mk.3 Courier.
The SVRA Portland Vintage Racing Festival included the pretty ELVA Mk.II of Bob Engberg who took the lead early in the race, but was eventually out paced.
Bill Stoler wrote a review of the PVGP Historics which includes a superb image of Joey Bojalad in his red Mk.VII, and other entries included H. Parke in his rear-engined '200' F/J, Norman Berke in the Courier and K. Williamson in another Courier.
The Hawk meeting at Road America write up includes an image of two Couriers driven by Brian Davis and Jesse Prather, with Brian taking second place in Group 2. Also entered was a Mk.VIIS of M. Eitel and a whole bunch of early McLarens built by Trojan-Elva.
Finally the ex. Butch Gilbert Mk.IV Courier is listed for sale in the Classified adverts but maybe Sharon has since managed to sell the car.
