Post Okie goes racing at Pittsburgh and Schenley Park ...
Grateful to Bob Lembcke for his recent race report ...

I went to race 2 weekends at Pittsburgh, one out west of town at Pitt. International with a Spitfire for Kastner Cup Jul 6-8, other was in Schenley Park in Pittsburgh the next weekend...took Elva for that...stayed out in Beavers Falls between and ran back and forth to town to see sights.
Figured I should send a few pictures and some notes for now ... (thanks Okie).

First race at Pittburgh International....very nice place (might make good location for next Elva reunion?)...concrete johns, and all (that's a relief!) As to Elvas....
Entry list showed two Couriers entered... Michael Kevin from Furnace, PA and Norman Berke of New Milford, CT. Not sure I saw all, but Berke was a stand out...very quick, ran with the Ginettas. Joey Bojalad from Sewickley PA ran in/away with the group in his white Mk.VI (60/01).
Mike Oritt was there, left his Elvas at home, raced a Ginetta G4 and was towards the front...don't know how he finished...probably in top 4?

Second weekend was at Schenley Park.... old city park, 36th year of vintage racing for charity...twisty, stone walled, roughly 2.3 miles...driver's meeting said a 6/10ths course... Norman was there once more with his Courier, towards the front of my "mid bore" group (1.5-2L)...perhaps 3-5th out 39 on grid... I ran my Courier in same group, not as successfully as qualified 19th...first time, welded rear, no sychro first and longer 2nd, hard to remember all the turns, don't see next one often.....lots of excuses... Truthfully, Norman was just better he,led by having raced there before)... Another Courier was in the under 1.5L w/yellow stripe, driven by Nate Scigliano ... believe he finished on podium in his group, as he was later off course with other "winners".... Joey Bojalad again showed up with his white Mk.VI either outright winner in group, or darn driven. (Joey did have outright win)

While I didn't see him, Ian Preston from up in Canada dropped down to event on Sat. to show his beautifully restored very early street Courier....

The Schenley Park races are unique...well worth coming for the week of "events"...but bring autocross/solo gearing and rear ends...welded jobs don't turn tight enough at low speeds...
I didn't finish Schenley in Elva...was mid pack at best, got jumped on start after 3 extremely slow pace laps (car was loaded up big time) rolling, made up 2-3 spots, and was really running up hill to a very tight (temporary) hay bale chicane... 4th to 2nd...gearbox got confused with me trying to do stuff quickly so didn't know where to go, so it didn't... was in middle of chicane fishing for 2nd, when hay on my right side exploded...
A Porsche 356 (drum brake) ran straight thru the first row of hay bales, came in way too hot, was going to run over me, so he decided best "bailed-out".... If I hadn't messed with 2nd, probably would have be directly where he exited the was, was over to left side a bit more... coasted up hill with hay blowing everywhere, then pulled off...didn't see any reason to go on, beating on gears for another lap and the race was pretty much over for me...
They red flagged to redo the chicane... I got towed back waving to the enthusiastic throngs that must have thought I was reason for the stoppage... lots of cheering... a fallen hero returning on shield?
At least I was cheered....guess beggars can choose, no matter what?

File comment: Okie and his Courier sans the hay!
