Post A comprehensively re-engineered usable ELVA Courier ..
An upgraded ELVA Courier that goes, stops and handles as well as current 2017 vehicles.

Barry Worsey is offering his Courier chassis number 200/15/R which will give the new caretaker superb handling, with excellent power output and stunning good looks from this very special thoughtfully upgraded and much improved car. Barry wrote ..

" The car was originally purchased in 1959 and raced at club level by the first owner. It then passed through four owners before being taken off the road in 1967. I purchased the Courier in 2008 as the previous owner had stripped down, but then abandoned, the car in a garage due to a divorce. Having successfully raced an earlier Courier in the 1960's, I was very familiar with the makeup of these cars and started the complete renovation including removing the body, repairing the chassis with top quality steel tubing supplied by John Roden. It has been highly modified with a Peyer Burgess 1990cc (120bhp) MGB full race engine, 5-speed Ford type 9 gearbox, disc brakes all round (GT6 front, V.W. Golf GTI rear), a limited slip diff, full race half-shafts, twin axle bearings and strengthening welding to the Riley 1.5 axle casing. Handmade billet alloy shock absorbers by Protech with new suspension springs machined to match weight of the car by a race car designer. The whole of the suspension was then tuned and set up professionally.
Of course there are many other modifications, including oil cooler, lightweight starter and alternator, new wiring loom, lights etc. The body was appraised by a glass-fibre body shop in Bromsgrove, and with their expert advice, all work was then carried out by me. This included stripping off the gel coat, repairing all cracks then covering whole car with glass-fibre tissue, then re-gelling, finishing for a full respray in two-pack again by me. The whole body took twelve months before bonding it back on chassis. I then trimmed the car, fitted new seats and door cards, new weather equipment with the interior finished off with lovely wool carpets. The car was carefully run in, before the power unit was finally tuned on an Aldon-Eng rolling road. "

Note from RAD .. Barry kindly drove his car to the ELVA 60th Anniversary meeting at Castle Donington where it was displayed at the circuit and certainly attracted much attention over the weekend. Without doubt '941 HPP' is one of the best prepared and superbly re-engineered examples of an early Courier for which Barry is justifiably extremely proud, however as we all experience, more candles are gently added to the birthday cake, and so the car is not now getting enough use and should now be passed to a new caretaker to experience and truly enjoy. This car must be one of the very best around and the improvements make driving a 1959 Elva Courier in modern traffic conditions a real pleasure.
A very useable Courier that is sure to be much admired wherever it goes.

Post Comprehensively re-engineered usable ELVA Courier REOFFERED
Seems this lovely example of a very useable Courier is now being offered by a dealer ..
If you read the earlier description you will see that the car has been upgraded mechanically and for the fast road user could be an excellent choice. Certainly the previous owner was fastidious about the reliability and detailing during the rebuild.
A good fun go anywhere Courier ...
