ELVA Card Models |
|
Elva Card Models You may have read the feature on this site about various Elva models, including the highly detailed McLaren-Elva slot-car versions, and I have learnt a lot about how much skill, time and effort goes into producing these hand built models. My involvement with the Bexhill museum project has introduced me to many local Bexhill people, together with those volunteers who contribute so much to the running of the museum itself. Regular contact has been with Julian Porter (Curator), John Betts (Finance) and Peter Fairhurst as CEO. During various meetings set up to discuss the "We're Bringing Elva Home" project, Peter took particular interest in the two resin and white metal models that I had commissioned of the old works vehicles and Peter casually mentioned that he could make card models of the vehicles and also a card version of the frontage of the old 'York' workshop. He could and he has ... and they are superb.
It transpired that Peter had previously written a series of eight illustrated modelling books aimed at the younger modeller, which have been very successful with something in excess of 200,000 copies sold. Published by Carousel (Transworld Publishers) between 1976 and 1984, these books provide an amazing insight into producing truly excellent card models and I am genuinely surprised at how good the finished Elva models are. So they will soon be offered, as part of the museum fund raising efforts and are a great attraction to all age groups. Peter has had a long career in teaching, has also written various other manuscripts for both children and adults together with several Theatre, Film and TV scripts. Do take a look at his website www.oldfred.com Contact me for further details of the card models, which are supplied with full instructions, and build yourself a very nice model of the now demolished Elva Engineering workshop in an evening. Great fun and hugely impressive. Thank you Peter.
